Blessings and Trials‏

This week I was able to have the oppourtunity to baptize someone who has been investigating the church for years. He is investigating with the sisters in my district and he is such a special person. I interviewed him for his baptism and I said a little prayer in my heart and asked my Heavenly Father approved of this humble 84 year old man. I felt very strong in my heart that he was ready. Saturday I baptized him and and sunday I went to see him confirmed. "Invite others to come unto Christ..." All that we can do as missionaries, as members and as friends is invite someone to start their salvation.

We have been working hard this week but it has also been hard. I had to say goodbye to President and Hermana Rappleye because this week we had our very last Zone Conference. It was very emocional and sad as we had to say our goodbyes. I know that I will see him another day in Utah but until then it will be a huge change. I am excited for our new Mission President and so ready to work. All I can do is work my hardest and strive to do the best I can.

I am so glad to hear that all the other missionaries are doing well. I am excited for every single one of them and I know they will do just great!

We have been working a lot with less active members and trying to help them to return to being active. Imagine this... 1 in every 30 persons here in Chile is a member of the Church. We take the "Talking to everyone" part of Preach My Gospel literally. We contact a ton of people but we are trying to work more with the members. My companion and I are teaching the members more and more about Preach My Gospel but now we just have to help them to APPLY it. I love Preach my Gospel and learn so much daily from it. I don´t know where I would be without it.

Winter is almost here as we are battling the cold weather and this next week starts up "The World Cup". Please pray for all of the missionaries that they will be protected here in South America and that people will open their hearts to this message even in this moment of Soccer Worship. I love this work with all of my heart and it pains me to see missionaries who don´t. We change the lives of other people and I owe so much to the missionaries who knocked the door of my dear Mother. Thanks to the Missionary work, I am here and I was born of goodly parents. I love this work and love my Father in Heaven.

P.S. The computer won´t let me put pictures so I will put them the next week.

He did it! He did it!

I took this picture of Sean and Alex back in May of 2012 at their Region track meet. Elder York posted it on his Facebook page with his prediction. I took a screenshot to save this tender moment between brothers. He wasn't too far off on his prediction. I love the sweet words he has for his brother in his email today.

I knew that it would happen! I Knew that one of my best friends was going to break the school record! Not only is he one of my best friends but he is my Brother. Sean broke the school record [for javelin] and I am so proud of him! I remember when I was teaching him how to throw and his first meet he beat me! I was so frustrated that he beat me and was determined to show him how it is done. When all is said and done my younger brother took it to the next level and did it. I am proud of him!

My new companion is Chilean. He is from a place called "La Serena". It is a little bit more north than Santiago. He is 19, has six months in the mission and is a really cool person. We work our butts off and are almost falling asleep during planning haha. He practiced weight lifting before the mission and isn`t that big but can lift a ton. He looks a ton like Derrik Rose from the Chicago Bulls. He took second in all of Chile in his class but doesn`t plan on returning to do it competively.

Winter here is rolling around and I have finally returned to the land of the rain. It is definitely one of my favorite things!

My advice to all of you future missionaries and those who have your calls.... Study Preach My Gospel. Read daily in the Book of Mormon. Pray daily, when you don`t feel that you want to pray, pray more! The mission will change your lives. I promise you that you will experience a huge change and it will be the greatest thing you will do. Prepare daily and make sure you put on the armour of God and put off the world. Enjoy your time with your family because one day you will be in my shoes wishing you could go back in time. Go and do when you are set apart and the Lord will never, never let you fall. Love the Lord with all of your heart and be exactly obedient just as the 2000 stripling warriors. I love you all and remember, Jacob 6:12 ["O be wise; what can I say more?"].

I have been loving being here in the mission. I truly have come to know myself better but much more important is I have come to know my Heavenly Father much more. I know that what all of the missionaries are doing in the world is the truth and no unhallowed hand can stop this work. God loves us and he sent his Son to die for us and bring us home. We are here to bring people unto him so he can bring them home.

Happy Mother's Day

Elder York and Elder Costa
Elder York with his new companion, Elder Meneses from La Serena, Chile.
I want to say to all of you Mothers and Future Mothers, Happy Mothers Day! I am so grateful to be able to have such a wonderful Mother who has shapèd and molded me to be who I am. I read a poem to my sweet Mother yesterday when we skyped and couldn`t help but tear up when I read it. It is called ``The Angel of the Child`` It was just the sweetest and I would type it but would have to translate it and I have very little time. I want to thank all of the people who in my life have been good examples to me and helped me to be who I am now.

We are now entering into winter. I am so excited to not be in the end of the world during winter. It has gotten really cold lately and we are still in Fall but I think I am just so used to always being cold haha. It is so beautiful here and the climate is just like in Alaska. The majority of the time the sky is grey but at times it is blue. There is a lot of rain but I have nothing to complain about. I love the rain and love what I am doing.

We have an investigator who the other day said the last prayer before we left his house. We said it on our knees and we asked him to say it. He started off just by saying... ``Heavenly Father......`` He then said.. ``I can`t pray today, Sorry I just don`t feel worthy to do so and don`t feel up to it.``. We shared the scripture Joshua 1:9 and invited him again. He did so and as he did he opened up his heart and just cried and bawled his eyes out pleading with his Heavenly Father to forgive him of his past.
That is why I am a missionary. To bring people up from the depth of their own mistakes to partake of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

I love this work and I am proud of all missionaries. But most important, I love my Mother.

Say what?! Burgers and cambios?‏

Today we decided to go to a famous restaurant here in La Union that is called ``6-3 Sandwhich`` or its nickname, ``Bomberos``. They have tons of sandwiches and they have one that is called the challenge. It is the biggest hamburger that I have ever eaten. The owner has never been able to eat it and none of the missionaries here have finished it. Well I ate it all. It was great but now I am full..

We have had a really great week. I had a talk with President Rappleye as we were in Osorno to get flu shots. He took me to the mission home with him just so we could talk and it was great. He finishes his mission this june so we got to talk about our lives and the Gospel. It was amazing! I am going to miss him a ton.. He has been a really good friend to me and has been just great. My new mission President will be coming from Mexico. his name is Rodrigo Obeso.

We have a new investigator who is just amazing. He came up to the missionaries who live in our house and said, ``I want to be baptized in your church``. Wow! He said he was sharing with the missionaries in Santiago and then he and his family moved here. He is a really really awesome guy and has two children of 8 years and of 1 year.
This week there are transfers and my companion is heading off to Entre Lagos! How cool that will be. I am giving him all of the tips and secrets and mainly.. Take care of my recent Convert who has 1 year in the church! Hector!

I am happy and doing well, Can`t wait till Mothers day to be able to talk to my family, may we all show our love towards our family and wish all the mothers a happy mother's day.
