Miracles with less actives

This Sunday we had 35 people come to church and 5 of them are less actives who haven't come in a very long time. I am so grateful for the mercy of the Lord to help me to be able to help them. I just wish that each and every one of you could know where I stand right now. I love helping these people so much to be able to change their lives. Many people think that you have to live as a perfect person to be a member and that you have to live a perfect life. We all are distinct and have different personalities that will determine what we like whether it be sports, arts, computers, cars or anything. Every single person has their own likes and dislikes that will shape the course of their lives. There is only one, one size fits all help. It´s called Jesus Christ. He is the only one who knows us better than ourselves.

I had a baptismal interview that I conducted this week. I was super nervous to do it and before we started I felt a little nervous, after we prayed I felt so confident and felt the Holy Ghost working through me which helped me to know that the Lord was with me and was sustaining me. There is no better feeling than feeling that the Lord is happy with what you are doing and supports you. All you have to do to feel that is focus on the other person and their needs.

We should be having a baptism very soon. Two investigators that we have who have been investigating the Church for 1 year and a half and they are both reading in the book of Mormon and are such good friends with the members. We just need to help them to get married so they can be baptized.

We finally changed houses!!!! No more rats, holes, cold, mold, mushrooms, and broken things ha. We now live in a house that is just the perfect size and perfect for us to live there. It is a one room house that has a kitchen and shower together that is smaller than my kitchen back home. Much smaller. It is just so perfect and I am so grateful to be in a good house where we can feel better the spirit.

I have learned a lot more about putting more my trust in the Lord and being focused on the work. I have realized that moving houses and other things have taken my mind off but it is time to get down  to work. I have about a year left and have a ton to do. Time to put my shoulder more to the wheel so that I can move this work forward.

The Greatest 2 years of my Life

Being a missionary we have such a wonderful opportunity to help other people to Come unto Christ. I am so honored that I have this privilege to be able to help others and to be a way that they can change their lives. When someone receives the Gospel in their lives they truly feel the Love of God like they never have before. Our job is to bring this message to them and to help them to live it.

This week has been pretty crazy. We were supossed to change houses but now we will do it this week. We started the BOOK OF MORMON PROGRAM and I am so excited! If you read two chapters a day you will read the Book of Mormon in 4 months. We started it and we have 50 people who have signed a contract to do it. I am so excited because this will bring people to Church and help them to be active once again and to be able to be baptized.

We have two investigators named Ariel and Leslie. They have been investigating the Church for 1 year and a half. They come weekly basically and are now, just now starting to read the Book of Mormon and are starting to progress a ton. They have their answer but they need to get married. They before wanted to go to Australia to be married and have a huge party but now they just want to get sealed in the Temple in Salt Lake. The difference is that THEY ARE FINALLY READING IN THE BOOK OF MORMON. How can someone progress in the Gospel but not read it? It is super hard.

We had a companion exchange this week that was way fun that lasted two days. The missionaries from Puerto Natales came and stayed with me in my house, yes still the house that I shall not complain about. We had it for 3 days straight and it was crazy and we got a lot of work done.

It is raining, I am wet, it is cold, I am in another country where I have to learn another language, AND I LOVE IT! I wouldn´t trade this for any experience in the world. The Mission is the best thing that has ever happened to me. YET! I know many good things will come in the future.

I love you all so so much. Take care and be grateful that your summer isn´t full of snow and rain and ice. Love you!!

One more week in the Lord´s Vineyard

I always remember a song that is from Jericho Road called Time. It says "Time is a tickin, are ya listnen, are you finding what you're missin, because you'll be wishin that you weren't running out of time." It just makes me think that my time is incredibly short and that I will only have two years to do all that I am doing. I want to make the most of my time and actually I have decided that I need to be taking better advantage of the gifts that I have been given and all of the blessings that I will be blessed with.

This week it has started to rain a lot but that is something that I am not new to haha. Alaska sure prepared me for the rain. It rained so much in Alaska..Seriously. Here in the south of Chile it rains a lot. Plus with the wind here it is even more fun.

We are so close to changing to our new house. I just talked to the Financer of the Mission and he approved all of the spending costs that I asked for. I am excited because he trusts me enough to put a ton of the Lord´s money on my card. I feel humbled to know I am trusted. We just need to go and buy the things this week and we will be moving in. I can't wait!! A good house that there are no problems haha.

It is really interesting to think that now I am going to be a cousin again. By the time that he/she is on a mission or my age I will be about 40 years old. Just one of those moments that makes you think about life..Very interesting. Just another reminder that time is going by so quick.

I had 6 people in this month that told me that they thought I was latino. Two people said I sound like I am from Peru and one said I sound like I am from Guatemala and 3 said I sound Chilean. I guess it took about a year for me to sound like a native. Not all people get that so I am so grateful that I have been able to develop this gift from the Lord.

I love this work so much. It is the only work that Salvation cometh. I love all of you too!!

Take care and remember that someone in Chile loves you.

New Year Goals

I love the fact that we as missionaries here in Punta Arenas walk around in the sun that is hot because of the ozone hole, in rain and hail and wind. All at the same time haha. It is definitely strange to me. I always thought that I would be in a car as a missionary, with an iphone and ipad working and baptizing people all day long ha. Well here we walk everywhere and don´t have any real technology but we are doing the same work. We are working in the work of the Lord. I know it, I love it and it is a part of me.

I just want all of you to know that I love you so much.

Now that we are starting a new year I want one of my goals to be clear. This year once again I will be a missionary. But I want to be even better. I want to become more than just a missionary, I want to be the best I can and be able to find more people to help.

I have been learning so much about my Father in Heaven lately. I am reading a book called, "Drawing on the Powers of Heaven" by Grant Von Harrison. I would recommend that every person read this book. I have learned so much about how our prayers can bring miracles.

Missionary work is more than just running people down and trying to shout our message to the world. We share something more valuable than anything else in the world. Every one of us is a son and daughter of our Heavenly Father. He has a plan to save every single one of us. As missionaries we must see people as children of God and strive to help them by treating them as we are. I may not have baptized a million and 1 people but the people who I have helped, I did it right. That is what counts.

I know that we all have people we know that could accept this message but we must ask our Father in Heaven how we can share it with them. Even something as small as bringing someone to mutual or church ball helps people gain testimonies.

I know we can help many people by our examples and by inviting them to listen to the missionaries. No one was ever offended by an invitation with love.

With so much love,
Elder York
